Animatedlane is intended to be more than just a showcase.  Hopefully it conveys my particular approach to craft, and respect for the art of animation and illustration.  Work I deliver to clients, or produce for in-house projects, comes through Adobe After Effects and/or Photoshop environments.  These tools are ubiquitous and versatile, making for easy integration into client work flows and final output.  My studio has imaging tools that capture enough resolution to communicate the more delicate aspects of traditional painting and drawing, which is the basis for all my current activity.

I have always enjoyed illustrating, and pursued that greatly at the start of my career.  Later, I worked in graphics for broadcast, producing digital paintings and later 3D modeling and animation.  My own photography has also been of value.  With the advent of progressive frame video and virtual cameras that have depth of field and shutter speed setting, building animation in a computer has become a lot like using a film camera.  The more powerful the tools become, the more transparent their mark, producing work that has a natural, detailed look.

I love my work, and also kayaking, cycling and traveling with a vintage Nikon—enlarging my photo archive during treks not just in Nepal, but also Thailand, Peru, Hawaii, the American West and Appalachian Mountains.

My studio is in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA.  Besides heaps of art supplies, it contains a cat named Slim (who now weighs 15 pounds).  I share a home with my partner—a lovely librarian named Melissa—and a dog named Chip.
